CORNET/FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CORNET?

CORNET stands for Cognitive Radio Testbed and is actually designed for many types of research including Cognitive Radio technology, Dynamic Spectrum Access, Software-Defined Radio research, and in reality any type of research that the resources can support and that is within legal boundaries. The Testbed consists of 48 Software-Defined Radio (SDR) nodes that include both a high performance server has the host processing system and a USRP2 with a custom daughterboard as the RF portion of the nodes.

How do I use CORNET?

First, you must schedule time on the Testbed. To do this you must register an account, and then go to the reservation page and request a reservation. Once a CORNET admin has approved your request, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your reservation has been activated.

What is a Universal Software Radio Peripheral 2?

What are the specifications on the "custom daughterboard" for the USRP2?

What are the specifications on the servers that the USRP2 is connect to?

What if I modify critical aspects of the operating systems on the nodes for my specific research, won't this mess up the nodes for the next users?

What operating system is on the nodes?

How do I "save" my work so I can reserve time in the future and continue where I left off?

Where can I see the current schedule for the Testbed?

What if I don't mind that sharing Testbed time with others?

If your research isn't sensitive to interference from other CORNET nodes, than simply select the checkbox during the reservation process that indicates "Testbed Sharing is OK". If this box is checked, than multiple users that have checked the box may be scheduled at the same time, however, each user will still have unique access to their own nodes.

For example, user A and user B may be OK with others using the Testbed at the same time, and have scheduled overlapping times. User A can request the first two floors, or node1-1 through node1-12 and node2-1 through node2-12, and user B can request the floors three and four, or node3-1 through node3-12 and node4-1 through node4-12. In this scenario both the users use overlapping timeslots but different nodes. Remember this is optional, if the box is NOT selected your will be requesting the entire Testbed by default.
